Wedding celebrations with vultures

The small town of Orchha with its 10,000 inhabitants is home to the famous Ram Raja Temple with its statue of Ram as well as its cenotaphs with its vultures. Once a year the town holds a large and colourful procession with thousands of participants in the honour of Ram’s wedding. We were able to observe the celebrations from the rooftop of a private house in the centre of the town and participate in a cooking presentation the next morning. After attending the evening prayer in Orchha we hopped on the overnight sleeper train from Jhansi to Varanasi.
