Going back in time

A three hour train journey and a bus ride of a similar length brought us from Agra via Jhansi to the small town of Alipura. Our residence for two nights are rooms in the 200 year old palace which is used as a heritage hotel, but also contains the private quarters of the royal family and has an almost zen like atmosphere. Another three hour bus ride with many bumps and left and rights lead us to the UNESCO world heritage side in Khajuraho with the world famous temples and there depiction on life more than 1000 years ago. These depictions include scenes from everyday life, such as the training of elephants to the erotic Kamasutra and Tantra statues showing some very adventures things. The level of detail of these statues is incredible and the temples were luckily hidden by a thick forrest during the Mogul rule.
