Day 14 – Sadly already the last full day

After a quick breakfast of croissants and coffee at a Drunk Baker branch, we went for something more highbrow, the Historical Museum of Shanghai. We learned many things about its long history, its role during the colonial era and the growth and prosperity it has enjoyed in the during the last decades. For lunch we headed to the area around the historic Yu Garden and after regaining our strengths entered the historic Yu Gardens. The tranquility of the gardens in the middle of this metropolis was very surprising. This of course had to be followed by something exciting, so we headed back to Nanjing Street for some shopping. Romy hit the stores and I the next tea house and enjoyed a large green tea, the newspaper and people watching. On our way back to the hotel, we stopped for some fried soup dumplings which were nothing short of a revelation. The day concluded with a slightly fancier group dinner and the usual farewells.
