Discovering South East Asia

After a short but bumpy flight we landed in Vietnam’s capital Hanoi. Sitting in the car from the airport to our hotel, being driven through the “empty” streets of the city made us realise how many people there are in India, even the buzzing Old Quarter didn’t seem insanely busy. But enough of the comparisons, we are here to discover a new country and entire region. Our discovery tour in and around the Old Quarter led us to Pagodas, Temples, and the notorious Hoa Lo prison which was built by the French to hold political prisoners. Later, during the Vietnam war it was then known as Hanoi Hilton and used for American prisoners of war. On our second day we visited the Ho-Chi-Minh mausoleum and museum learning more about his life, his meaning for the country and the history of Vietnam. On the really touristy side, we went on a day trip to Ninh Binh visiting the old capital as well as the dancing hills.
