Saving the best for last

Our journey around Tonle Sap lake let us to Siem Reap which is the town tourists stay at when visiting the world famous Angkor Wat.

The first full day here was entirely dedicated to the ancient temples and buildings of the Angkor complex. We arrived at Angkor Wat at 5:30am to enjoy the magical sunrise over the temples, followed by a tour of the different levels and the respective art work. After gaining new strength from a big breakfast, we continued the tour with the temples and buildings of Angkor Thom. Before lunch we also visited Prasat Ta Prom which became famous through the Tomb Raider movie. Due to general exhaustion the group returned to Siem Reap. However, we and two more of our travel companions couldn't resist the urge to go back and enjoy a beautiful sunset from the top of Prasat Pre Rup.

On our second day we took it easy and visited a few temples in Siem Reap and the state of the art Angkor museum which informs about everything you ever wanted to know about the Khmer empires and more.
