Day 8 – The giant Buddha

On this sunny Saturday, we started our journey to Mt. Emei. On the way to the sacred Buddhist mountain (one out of four in China), we stopped at the giant buddha statue of Leshan. The sitting Buddha with his 71 meters overlooks the junction of the Minjiang, Qingyi and Dadu River which he is supposed to keep in check. It is the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue in the world. After this impressive sight we continued our way to Emeishan city. In the late afternoon we visited the Baoguo Temple where a former monk/now local entrepreneur showed us around the premises and explained the history of the temple. Since we had another early start ahead of us, we enjoyed only a light dinner and a short walk around town.
